Networking builds business – unless you do this

NEW YORK – Aug. 2, 2016 – Face-to-face meetings help form close bonds with others and give them a clear picture of who you are. But sometimes certain habits you have can be a turn-off to your peers or customers you encounter. Forbes.com recently highlighted some of the following face-to-face networking mistakes:

  • ·Interrupting: Don't interrupt a conversation that someone is having with another person. It quickly sends the signal that you're rude.

  • Pushy selling: Don't push your services on a person from the moment you meet them. Warm up and build a relationship first.

  • Complaining: Don't complain about the venue location or food. You're there to connect, not critique the setting.

  • "Me, me and me": Don't make the conversation all about yourself and your impressive accomplishments. Instead, take an interest in others and listen. Use open-ended questions to get the other person sharing.
